Virgin Media’s Sweetest BlackBerry Deal, Ever

September 6th, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

Did we say sweetest? Because that is really understating the fact that Virgin Media has just announced what has to be the single greatest reason to own a BlackBerry 8520: a 12 Pound monthly tariff that offers the handset for free.

Now, there are plenty of great deals with plenty of great handsets out there on the market. Certainly, being able to grab one of the many contracts available is an easy task to accomplish. But this deal is going to be very hard to beat.

First off, the price; while this is usually the bottom line of most arguments, it has to be the top lining conversation in this topic. At 12 Pounds per month, one could only hope for a decent offering on a sim-only contract. Instead, Virgin Media is giving out the plan at a low price with a great phone attached.

And that is a free phone. Not a price reduced device, but a completely free handset that will be thrown in with the deal. Now, the 8520 is no Storm or Bold, but the handset is still able to bring in all the important features that most people need –especially young adults. This is the main target demographic of VM’s new pricing scheme. Jonathan Kini, current director of mobile for Virgin Media has directly confirmed that they made this plan with students in mind. In fact, an additional 15% discount will be given to NUS card holders.

The plan itself is pretty bare bones, but subscribers could opt to throw in the extra phone budget (since the device will be free) for an additional load of extra features such as media content for a reduced additional price of 10 Pounds a month.

With this brand new plan, we can expect to see an influx of BlackBerry 8520 smart phones across campus and university halls everywhere.
