    Two New Phones From Toshiba

Message from fivefilters.org: If you can, please donate to the full-text RSS service so we can continue developing it.

New releases from Toshiba have been a bit scarce in the past year, but they have announced the launch of two new models at the MWC in Barcelona.

The two newest additions to the Toshiba Mobile range are the TG02 and the K01. The TG 02 is the follow up to the TG01 PDA style phone they released last year. Sales of that device didn’t appear to sell quite as well as expected although it was fitted with some very good features for the price. The main fault people seemed to pick on as far as the TG01 was concerned was its bulky size and lack of radio facility.

At 9.9 mm thick the TG02 is the same size and weight as its predecessor with the same 4.1 inch screen, so again the bulk of the device may well put some people off.

If you have no problem with the bulk of the phone, then it’s not a bad offering as it has a wide capacitive VGA touchscreen that offers fast response times and the 1GHZ Snapdragon processor definitely provides the power needed for internet browsing at the speed users expect these days. The TG02 also has a 3D Menu system-similar to the one used in the Samsung M1 designed to make browsing easier. The Windows Mobile 6.5 platform powers the device.

The second Toshiba offering is the K01 and this is a QWERTY slider style handset. This also runs on the Windows 6.5 platform (although an upgrade to Windows 7 Mobile might be possible ) and like the K01 has a large 4.1 inch screen, so if you think bigger is better then you have to check this phone out. Spec wise apart from the OLED screen making it more energy efficient and the QWERTY keyboard it’s not too different from the TG02 to be honest.

The K01 is pretty slim at 12.9mm considering it has a full QWERTY keyboard tucked away and is pretty stylish in our eyes. Like its counterpart the GT02 the K01 also has a 1GHZ processor and storage can be expanded up to 32GB on the handset with a microSDHC cards, so there will be plenty of space for storing items like photographs and music .

Details about Bluetooth capabilities, Wi-Fi and 3G compatibility and spec on the camera haven’t been released yet , but we will bring them when the updates appear.

At the moment there is no indication on when the two devices will hit the shelves, or on pricing.
