Toshiba has announced its iPad rival at IFA which is rather unimaginatively named the Folio 100, as was rumoured earlier this week.
The Filofax 100, sorry Folio 100, comes as predicted with a 10.1 inch display, a built-in webcam, and it runs Android 2.2 (meaning full Flash support for web browsing). Under the bonnet an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor is running the show.
This week’s leaked spec was also correct as to the USB port and HDMI port, which makes the Folio a well featured little slate. Initially, however, it will only come in a wi-fi flavour, with the 3G model not due to debut until later this year (the wi-fi variant will be out come October).
The tablet comes with 16GB of memory that will be expandable via an SD card slot. Expected battery life is seven hours, enough to watch fourteen consecutive episodes of Last of the Summer Wine (providing you don’t top yourself first).
Toshiba says: “The Folio 100 comes with a wide selection of apps and services dedicated to media consumption, web browsing and social networking, and offers a rich multimedia experience. Easy and enjoyable to use, the Folio 100 has a highly intuitive graphical interface developed by Toshiba to run on top of Android 2.2.”
The price is pitched at 399 Euros, Engadget reports, and you’ll be able to grab one next month (assuming you don’t want the 3G model).
