Best Buy UK has been looking into the some of the texting habits of people at home and have discovered that among the many recipients of the hundreds of text messages being sent each day, a good portion of which goes to people in the same household –at the same time.
The messages are often short, brief and basic. With anything from calling people to the dinner table to telling another to do some random chore, these text messages are often preferred as opposed to having to walk up a flight of stairs looking for the recipient in question. And it works too. Most people find the approach as indirect and easier to follow, making the medium quite preferred for communicating such things.
However, this does not mean that SMS is going to be preferred over actual conversations. If anything, users should know that that talking in person is still quite preferred over anything else –even voice calls.
The inclusion of electronic devices in the household has not only been a major convenience, but also has been a cause for problems. According to study, having to share electronic resources often nets trouble for the household as users compete for turns on the computer or over bandwidth speed when there are more than one user connected to the internet in a multi-system setup.
Storage space has also been pegged as a major issue for households that share a single computer as media files often take up plenty of space and accidental deletions or complete system failures are more likely to occur when several users are involved.
In other mobile usage patterns, it seems that 1 out of every 10 folks in the UK make use of the microblogging site Twitter. While the medium is not exactly known for being the most accurate source of information, it still provides users with a way of reaching more people with news as well as for picking up the latest trends and updates.
