Did we say that the market is heavily proliferated with Android smart phones? That may be the case but that would only be a fact and not a complaint. Google’s open source mobile platform is one of the best operating systems to be launched in the world of smart phones and having more to choose from is always better.
Samsung’s latest offering, the I5510 is certainly one solid example of why variety really does make things better: it comes with a slide out QWERTY keyboard. At this point, one simply cannot stress it enough; the value of a physical, slide out QWERTY keyboard will easily outmatch and outdo any on screen virtual keyboard –Swype technology or otherwise.
The big factor here is that despite the efficiency of Swype (which is obviously far less stressful on fingers) and the presence of haptic feedback (which emulates the presence of physical keys), the average person is far more familiar to the concept of physical buttons. While the next generation of gadget users may grow up on touch screen keyboards, the current market is still too proliferated with folks who grew up with the good old physical keyboard.
So far, the only things we know about the Samsung I5510 is that it packs a keyboard and that it runs the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system. The device will definitely be a 3G capable handset with a display that uses at least TFT technology and can display around 256k colors (though it would be nice if the phone came out with an AMOLED screen).
The device will definitely be part of the Galaxy handset lineup, and the price tag is estimated to come out at about 200 Pounds. While no specific launch date or network carriers have been named, the device is expected to come out before the end of the year and that Vodafone is likely to offer the device first.
