    Review: Samsung Galaxy S Cases

Thursday 9th September 2010 by Andy Simpson in Android, Mobile Accessories.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post that highlighted 5 of our most popular Samsung Galaxy S Cases, but given how popular the phone is becoming, I thought I’d take a closer look at some of the other cases that are available at the £10, £20 and £30 price points.

Flexishield Case for Samsung Galaxy S

    Cost: £10.47
    Case type: Gel Case
We like: Great protection against knocks, easy to fit.
We don’t like: Screen protector isn’t included.

    Review

FlexiShield cases regularly feature in my top ten mobile phone cases. They’re a much tougher version of a silicone case, they don’t stretch as much, won’t tear, and can withstand more in the way of knocks and bumps. The Flexishield case for the Galaxy S is a great fit to the phone and all the cut outs line up perfectly. On the one I reviewed it was a two tone black – the majority of the case being a matte black, but the front edge had a polished  finish.

As with most custom fit cases, the FlexiShield for the Galaxy S has cut outs for the camera, microphone, headphones and charging sockets. The volume controls are covered up by a thinner section of the case that allows you to use them without having to remove the phone from the case.

The screen is still exposed so you’ll need to invest in a Samsung Galaxy S Screen Protector if you want to prevent that Super AMOLED screen from getting scuffed.

PDair Leather Pouch for Samsung Galaxy S

    Cost: £19.97
    Case type: Leather Pouch
We like: Covers all of phone, Allows use of headphones
    We don’t like: Hard lining

    Review

PDair make a range of stylish, high quality cases for phones. I decided to review the PDair Pouch as I think the style of case suits touch screen phones better than some of the flip or book style cases. The case is an excellent fit for the phone. It has elasticated sides that help to keep your Galaxy S firmly in place and as the top is open, you’ll have no problems in using your headphones while your phone is in the case.

The front and back of the case is lightly padded and has been strengthened to protect the delicate screen, but oddly, the lining of the case is quite harsh. Unlike other pouches that are available, it’s not a soft touch or microfibre lining. It’s not too much of a problem as it won’t damage your phone, but it won’t clean it or wipe away finger prints either. The front (or back, depending on how you use it) of the case has the PDair logo stamped into it.

Noreve Leather Flip Case for Samsung Galaxy S

    Cost: £30.47
    Case type: Leather Flip Case
We like: Exceptional build quality, excellent fit.
We don’t like: There’s nothing not to like!

    Review

Noreve make some beautiful cases for phones and this is no exception. The quality of the case is excellent. Instead of having a stitched leather pocket to hold your phone, the Noreve case uses a ‘rail’ system to keep your Galaxy S in place. This allows the phone to be held securely without having the front of the phone covered with strips of leather that restrict access to the screen and controls.

The side rails are positioned so that they don’t interfere with the volume or camera keys and all the ports on the phone are also left accessible. Cut outs on the back of the case mean that you can leave the phone in the case to take photos. The case has a removable belt clip and discreet Noreve branding on the outer cover and lining.
