Motorola has added two new Android handsets to its roster, the Milestone 2 and the partially rugged Defy.

The Milestone 2 is the Euro version of the Droid 2, and is a high-end beast offering a 3.7in display with 480 x 854 resolution and a slide-out Qwerty keyboard, which Motorola claims is better laid out and easier to type on than the first model.

The Milestone 2 is powered by a 1GHz processor and has 8GB of memory built-in, which can be expanded on thanks to an SD card slot that can accept 32GB cards. The 5-megapixel camera can now capture at 720p.

Of keen interest to Android fans is the fact that the handset will ship with Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’, thus providing support for Flash 10.1 based content. You also get 802.11n Wi-Fi, it can function as a WiFi hotspot and it can even share media over a network thanks to DLNA support.

As a larger phone, it can accommodate a hefty battery, so it should be able to deliver its heavy feature loan for a decent amount of time.

The Defy meanwhile is a less powerful affair with a mere 800MHz CPU, 2GB of memory and only offers Android 2.1, but its selling point is that it’s billed as being ‘dust-proof’ and ‘water-resistant’. According to Motorola it exceeds the IP67 standard – so can handle being submerged in water for up to 30 minutes, which should prove handy if you like to phone or surf in the bath.

Both phones sport Motorola’s MotoBlur social networking and contact stream syncing interface.

Motorola said that both handsets will appear in the fourth quarter of the year, but was not forthcoming with prices, so on that front we’ll just have to wait and see.
