A recently released list of Motorola Android devices lists down the launch dates for updates for phones that will still be able to make use of the newer versions of the Android OS in the coming months; the list also clarifies which devices will no longer be getting updates to the OS.
This means that if you are using the Motorola DEXT or the Motorola Backflip smart phones, then now is great time to dispose of your older device and upgrade to a more popular model. The two devices are among the three UK based Android phones made by Motorola and only the Milestone will be getting Android 2.2 Froyo.
This means that the older devices will start losing value the moment this list starts spreading.
The Motorola Milestone unsurprisingly, is getting the update because it is one of the most successful Android devices to ever be released. When it came out around December last year, it easily topped the charts. The device was a combination of two great factors, the first was the (then) new Android 2.0 Éclair OS and the second is the phone’s form factor; it has a massive touch screen display and more importantly, it has a physical slide out QWERTY keyboard.
The addition of the keyboard alone was enough to attract plenty of attention from Android fans and the fact that he device was so well designed that it was hard not to notice.
According to the Motorola listing, the Milestone will be getting the update later this fourth quarter of 2010 which means that the update may be released as early as October.
Android Froyo brings plenty of new functions and features to the Android OS such as Flash and new software updates. It also provides the operating system with a major performance boost in terms of the user interface and Java handling when browsing the web.
