Our lucky friends over at Engadget have just had a sneak peek at an LG Windows Phone 7 Series early prototype. The prototype is owned by Aaron Woodman, director of mobile communications business at Microsoft. Woodman was a guest on the Engadget Show when he suddenly pulled out an LG phone running Microsoft’s latest mobile operating system.

The LG handset boasts a full Qwerty keypad, a 5-megapixel camera with flash, a 3.5mm headphone jack and there are dedicated hardware camera, volume, and power buttons in addition to the Windows Phone 7 Series back, home, and search buttons. Engadget don’t know what it’s called yet or when it will be out but from what we can see it looks close to being a finished product.

When LG announced last year that it would make 50 phones running Microsoft’s mobile operating system, we didn’t know what was going on. Windows Mobile in 2009 was a far cry from Windows Phone 7 and LG wasn’t well-known for its smart phones. Enter Windows Phone 7 and devices like the one seen today on the Engadget Show, and it all starts to make sense. It feels really weird to be excited about a Microsoft mobile product but we are.
