Rumours have been floating about for a while now that LG were developing an iPad/Galaxy Tab rival of their own. However, there’s been little in the way of confirmation or details out there… Until now.
Yesterday some unscrupulous but wonderful individual managed to get a picture of a slide out from LG’s pre-IFA Dealer Day. The slide shows the rumoured LG tablet device in all its glory, with a few vague details about specifications to boot. While it’s not exactly “official”, it’s fair to say this is probably as close as we’re going to get to confirmation until LG are ready to launch the device.
The slide reveals that the device is currently being called the LG Optimus Pad, and that it’ll run on Android. It’s also claiming to have superior performance and be thinner and lighter than its competitors – presumably the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The only other thing of particular note in the slide is the picture of the device itself. Blurry though it is, it appears to show that the LG Optimus Pad will have a 16:9 screen ratio – quite different from the iPad’s 4:3 screen ratio and implying that video playback will be a key focus of the LG Optimus Pad.
Further details will have to wait until LG are good and ready but with the iPad already out there building its place in the market and the Samsung Galaxy Tab expected to launch tomorrow, it’s unlikely that LG will want to sit on this one too long. Exciting times for tablet fans!
