If you are the owner of a recent Nokia S60 device, you are spoilt with SatNav options. With Nokia Maps offering full, free access to maps, and guides, and voice turn-by-turn navigation, you could wonder what else you would need for navigation on the go.
But there is an alternative, in the form of the excellent, cross platform Google Maps. Google Maps works on the iPhone, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry handsets, as well as all Android devices. The version for Android is the most complete, not surprising given Google’s interest in Android, which itself now offers voice navigation in the UK on all Android devices running Android 1.6 OS and above.
But back to Google Maps and the latest update. Whilst on the S60 and Windows Mobile platform, Google do not (yet) offer voice navigation, they have just updated the application so you can use voice search. After launching Google Maps on your phone, just press the call button and you will see the familiar microphone icon, then speak the address, or business or place you are searching for and Google Maps will do the rest.
To update your handset to the latest version of Google Maps, simply point your phone’s browser to m.google.com and follow the on screen options from there.
