Firefox Mobile on the Nokia N900 is pretty good. The problem is that, despite the Nokia N900 having a small hardcore following, it’s never going to be a mainstream phone. This means that a lot of people aren’t going to get to experience the popular web browser on the go.

There is not much likelihood of us seeing Firefox Mobile for iPhone or Blackberry for reasons of distribution and compatability, and Mozilla says it currently has no plans to develop it for Symbian.

However TechRadar has revealed that Mozilla is planning on bringing Firefox Mobile to Android “later in 2010″. Jay Sullivan, Mozilla’s Vice President of mobiles is quoted saying Android and Firefox Mobile are a ‘great fit’ for each other. How touching: “It’s a modern OS, and it’s a great fit with us. It’s the type of platform that has a high affinity with the early adopter, and it’s seen a lot of uptake.”

Sullivan also mentions that work has begun on a version for Windows Mobile, although the announcement of Windows Phone 7 means there may have to be a choice between developing for this, Windows Mobile 6.5 or both.

The announcement of MeeGo also means that Mozilla could develop Firefox Mobile for this platform as well. Given that Firefox Mobile has had a lot of success on the Mameo-based N900, this would make sense.
