Cassette tape iPhone case is cool but will make you look crazy

By Kate Solomon on Friday, 3rd September 2010

Everything old is cool, which is one of the many reasons why the humble cassette tape holds so much hipster cache. Other things that are cool include music and Apple products. So it stands to reason that the Tuned Up iPhone case from Fred & Friends will be nigh on the epitome of awesomeness in certain parties’ eyes.

The Tuned Up case is by no means the first cassette-inspired iPhone case, but it’s the first we’ve seen that will also solve your antenna issues, should you be having any. It’s a silicone case that sits on your phone at all times, rather than being one that you slip your handset in and out of. The downside of this is that you’re going to look like you’re talking into a giant cassette like the lady above, which I’m sure is not the kind of lo-fi I-don’t-care-what-I-look-like look that you were going for.

It even comes with a stand made from a tape box for watching all those ironic black and white films and stop-motion music videos. The Tuned Up case doesn’t seem to be on sale anywhere yet, so no word on UK availability or pricing – but Fred & Friends products often end up on Amazon.co.uk so if you’re keen, keep your eyes peeled.
