The battle of the tablets is well and truly under way.
And we’re not talking about the Sunday morning decision about whether Nurofen or Paracetamol will be more effective in curing your sore head.
The battle in question is the one in which big tech companies are trying to get a tablet out there which rivals the iPad.
Asus thinks the Eee Pad could be an Apple conqueror, although the company stresses that it is a somewhat different beast to the iPad.
The Eee Pad will come in two forms: The smaller will have a 10 inch display, the same size as the iPad, and the second will boast more screen real-estate with a 12 inch size.
The pitch with the bigger Asus tablet is that it’s more like a full-on portable PC, with the bigger screen, and Windows 7 on board, powered by a low voltage Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
As well as the touchscreen, you’ll be able to interact with the device via a stylus, or indeed a full keyboard which can be hooked up to the tablet via a docking station.
Unlike the iPad, the Eee Pad will come with a USB port, and it will support Flash.
The smaller 10 inch tablet runs Windows Embedded Compact 7, and is powered by an Nvidia Tegra system-on-a-chip.
Doubtless it will be considerably cheaper, too, although pricing is an issue that hasn’t been confirmed by the company.
The expected release date for both tablets is the start of next year.
