Pre-orders for the Apple iPhone 4 started today with a general overload of all related websites and systems. But some more helpful news was also made known today.
Firstly, after we commented in a blog post that 5 of the 6 networks (all except Virgin) would be selling the iPhone 4, a seventh network, Tesco Mobile announced that it would sell the device. It’s website features the now-classic “register your interest” page and also a special product tour coming from the Apple UK website. It doesn’t however mention release date, prices or more interestingly what the inclusive data allowance will be. If you were wondering, Tesco Mobile is an MVNO (mobile network virtual operator) that actually runs on the O2 network.
In a page on the official Apple Store website, Apple has now informed us of the SIM Free prices for the new Apple iPhone 3G S 8GB and the iPhone 4 16GB and 32GB. The 3G S 8GB will cost £419 and the iPhone 4 will cost £499 for the 16GB version and £599 for the 32GB version. A relevant comparison would be the HTC Desire that has only 500MB of onboard storage (expandable to 32GB with the microSD slot) that is currently selling for £399.95 SIM Free.
