Android 2.1 Upgrade For Xperia X10 Contracts Coming in September

    September 1st, 2010 by Caroline

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 owners can soon say goodbye to the outdated 1.6 version of the Android OS and hello to the newer 2.1 model, because the company has confirmed via its Twitter account that the handset will receive the 2.1 version of the operating system by the end of September.

The capable smartphone with a large 4 inch touchscreen currently runs on the Google Android 1.6 platform. The upgrade will bring with it an array of benefits for users including support for multi-touch and live wallpapers. The speed will be increased and the battery life enhanced.

The upgrade will complement the high-end handset and will provide a better user experience thanks to the improved speed and stability. Accessing all the apps and features on this mobile phone will be smoother, so you can make more of the social networking integration, inbuilt 8-megapixel camera and multimedia ability.

Although you haven’t long to wait now for the Xperia X10 Android upgrade, if you own the Dell Streak you likely won’t have to wait for the OS upgrade at all – as O2 is offering the Android upgrade for its customers from today onwards.

The tablet-smartphone hybrid device that boasts a massive 5 inch touchscreen together with a super-slim 10mm design, the Streak will also benefit from the upgrade. For example, the phone’s 5-megapixel camera will be capable of 720p video recording. However, we were led to believe the Dell device would be inline for Froyo.

An O2 spokesperson was asked about this by the guys over at PC Pro, who said: “We haven’t made any announcement about 2.2, so I wouldn’t even describe it as ‘knocked back’ to 2.1. We’re just planning to offer 2.1 first (this week) and then 2.2 after that, exactly when is still to be announced.”
